Reading 101 provides excellent preparation for becoming a Certified Literacy Teacher. You can attain certification through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction and The International Dyslexia Association. The printables on this page were created in order to help me schedule my daily five rotations. I have also include charts that the students can refer to while I am working with small guided reading groups. Teaching reading IS rocket science. Learning to read is a little bit like learning to ride a bike — while you are balancing a person on the handle-bars, holding a pole, spinning plates, and focusing on the destination at the same time! Reading is a complicated process, which is why so many children struggle to become strong. Overlapping duties, it is easy to see why confusion between reading specialists and literacy coaches may occur. To make the distinctions easier, Table 1 outlines these differences. Many individuals perform the tasks of both reading specialists and literacy coaches, either because they have a divided job, such as 50% reading specialist.

Increasing the literacy rate for children K-6 help their ability of learning to read. These positive skills are applied later on as they read to learn.
